Ulsan to Get “Techmart,” a Comprehensive Electronics Shopping Center. 1

A one-stop electronics shopping center called “Techmart” will open in Haksan-dong, Jung-gu, Ulsan. Songbang (CEO Kim Hyun-seok), a Ulsan-based retail development company, announced on the 17th that it plans to transform the former Seven Outlet building, which had been used as a fashion outlet mall, into Techmart, a comprehensive electronics distribution center modeled after a specialized discount store. The center will bring together businesses specializing in electronics, computers, and information and communications technology (ICT). Songbang is actively pursuing the project to create a comprehensive electronics shopping center at the centrally located Seven Outlet site, providing a pleasant shopping environment and convenient parking. By consolidating electronics retailers currently scattered throughout Ulsan, the company aims to attract more customers and maximize the synergistic effects of a multi-store retail complex. Techmart will occupy a five-story building, consisting of one basement level and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of approximately 1,300 pyeong (about 4,300 square meters). The third and fourth floors will be used for offices, parking, and logistics storage. Approximately 1,000 pyeong of retail space from the basement to the second floor will house around 80 stores specializing in home appliances, computers, ICT, mobile communications, and other electronics. It is expected to become Ulsan’s first comprehensive electronics distribution center. In particular, Techmart will specialize each floor by business category. The basement will feature ICT and mobile communications stores. The first floor will be an open retail area focused on home appliances, imported appliances, and audio equipment. The second floor will be organized as a computer mall featuring branded PC retailers and custom-built PC businesses. Techmart’s location near Ulsan’s main commercial district gives it favorable conditions for attracting customers. Contracts have already been completed with branded PC dealers, home appliance retailers, and mobile communications stores, leaving only a few custom-built PC stores still to be filled. Accordingly, Songbang recently held a leasing information session for custom-built PC companies in Ulsan and began recruiting additional tenants. The company plans to complete leasing for approximately 80 stores by the end of this month, finish tenant move-ins, and open the entire center as early as the beginning of next month. To coincide with Techmart’s opening, Songbang also plans to launch TV advertisements featuring a celebrity as its exclusive model and introduce a Techmart character called “Techboy” as part of a joint marketing campaign. It has also prepared post-opening sales strategies, including joint promotional campaigns with tenants and a lowest-price guarantee program. Busan = Yoon Seung-won, Staff Writer
